My Story

Wright Stuff

Acting should be effortless and there are few who do so convincingly.  Jeffrey Wright takes his time as he flows down his river of emotions. I love watching him work.  He has an amazing presence on stage as well as film.  Captivating performances have become the norm no matter how small the role.  His eye's always carry a certain weight.

His resume includes roles that have allowed him to stretch and grow as an artist.  I hope I get the chance to give my interpretation of some of these iconic people in history.  People such as "Martin Luther King Jr." , who  has been a recurring character in many films and i've been practicing since I was a child to take up the mantle of such a great man.  Wright's portrayal as "Muddy Waters" was cooler than a moon lit night in the late winter.

A period piece is always fun to watch and even more fun to immerse yourself in another era.  The language, clothes and atmosphere help foster some wonderful performances.  I've been watching movies like "A Soldier's Story", since i was a kid and they've always captured my imagination.  "The Color Purple" has always spoken to my ancestors by using me as a conduit.  I'm a country boy and I love it!!!

Denzel Washington's perforamance in "Glory" gave me chills as a child and my first realization that the movie's I enjoyed so much could actually touch my humanity.  Specifically, when Denzel's character is whipped for running away by Matthew Broderick. there was a moment that the camera focused on Denzel close up and one tear rolled down his face as he tried not to react to the pain.  I cried...as a child I didn't know why i was crying but i knew it was far more important of a reason than it probably hurt.  I love what i do.

Craig Robinson is a funny Motherfu@#%@&....well you get my drift.  Always in a funny moment and just great at finding the tiniest action to enhance the scene.  He's comfortable being himself and not afraid to find a way to get the laugh.  I can definitely see myself taking on roles that allow me to have fun and just embrace the spirit of acting a damn fool.  Movies are meant to entertain and there are some people who can't make that transition from comedy to drama.  But as we all know comedy can be challenging.  I look forward to the day that i can make content with my friends that makes people die laughing.

Forrest Whitaker's command of his craft is almost zen like.  He faces the camera with the stillness of a peaceful lake and suddenly rages like a hurricane on the Gulf of Mexico.  I've read that he approaches the work in different ways but he makes sure to be specific.  Being specific as possible has helped me identify layers and moments that some may pass by.  We are artists and that means allowing the universe inside to create and be expressed.  I see my career path following Forest's as one day i plan to Direct.
